Storm Daniel will continue to rage through Thursday afternoon before moving south across the Mediterranean. The amount of rain is still very high. Some weather models calculate totals of over 120 liters per square metre. In addition to heavy rain, lightning and thunder are also still active in Greece. “Today there will initially be some heavy rain and thunderstorms, but they will gradually subside from the afternoon onwards,” explains our meteorologist Carlo Pfaff. At night it will be increasingly dry in the area. After that, the rain will move towards Libya.

But it’s not over yet. According to some weather models, a depression over the warm Mediterranean could gain significantly more energy and develop into a subtropical storm or even a powerful hurricane. In the past few days, Greece has witnessed an unprecedented rain disaster. The EMY meteorological agency said that the amount of water that fell on the Thessaly region in recent days is the largest that has ever fallen in the country since this data was collected. Recently, the city and municipality of Karditsa and its surrounding communities have been severely affected. In many places, the water reached the roofs of houses, forcing residents to flee to the roofs. “The water is up to four meters high in some places,” a resident told Mega Radio.
