BThe Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) said that three sons and four grandchildren of Hamas's foreign leader, Ismail Haniyeh, were killed in an Israeli air strike on the Gaza Strip on Wednesday. They were injured while they were in a vehicle in the Al-Shati refugee camp, north of the coastal strip.
The Israeli army confirmed the targeted killing. The army said that three members of the military wing of Hamas were “eliminated” in an air strike during terrorist activities in the Gaza Strip. The army confirmed that these were Haniyeh’s sons.
Haniyeh said in Doha, according to a statement seen by Al Jazeera: “I thank God for what he has honored us with with the martyrdom of my three sons and some of my grandchildren.” Hamas confirmed the killing of Haniyeh's three sons and four grandchildren.
Ismail Haniyeh confirmed the martyrdom of his two sons, saying that they were martyred on “the path to liberating Jerusalem.” Hanija said in a telephone call, “The criminal enemy is motivated by the spirit of revenge and murder and does not respect customs and laws.” Hamas will not abandon its positions.
“The enemy believes that by targeting their families, it makes the leaders abandon the needs of our people,” Haniyeh said. “Anyone who thinks that attacking my sons will make Hamas change its position is crazy.”
Haniyeh said, according to Al Jazeera, that the blood of his children is not more precious than the blood of the children of the Palestinian people. “All the martyrs of Palestine are my children.”
Haniyeh is considered the first leader of the extremist Islamic movement Hamas. He heads their political office from the Gulf emirate of Qatar, where he lives. He is considered one of the masterminds of the unprecedented attack launched by Hamas on Israel on October 7, which ignited the war in the Gaza Strip, along with Jahja Sinwar, the political leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, and the military leader of Hamas, Muhammad Deif.
According to Israeli figures, at least 1,160 people were killed in the major attack launched by the Islamic movement Hamas, classified as a terrorist organization by the European Union and the United States of America, and about 250 were kidnapped hostage in the Gaza Strip.
Since then, Israel has conducted a large-scale military operation in the Gaza Strip. According to the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry, which cannot be independently verified, more than 33,300 people have been killed so far.
