at Denmark Three people have died from salmonella in physical therapy, SSI announced. A total of 33 people between the ages of 2 and 92 were found to be suffering from salmonella poisoning, and 19 people have so far been hospitalized.
The same type of salmonella is found in all of them. They have been discovered in psyllium husks that can be taken in capsules. It is a dangerous and large outbreak with many patients, hospitalizations and deaths, SSI epidemiologist Louise Muller said.
The risk is low
For the first time, she said, a natural remedy could be identified as the cause of a Salmonella outbreak. At the same time, SSI announced that the risk is considered low, even if people consume the product or another nutritional supplement from the manufacturer. Most of the time, salmonella symptoms are mild and go away on their own.
According to the manufacturer, the product is said to aid digestion and various stomach problems. Many products have already been recalled by the manufacturer. Mueller told the Ritsau news agency that the product would be taken by people who were previously ill, among other things. It is therefore difficult to determine whether the victims died from salmonella or from salmonella.
